Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 to a poor family with 12 kids at one point, realized that she was able to escape her hardships through a creative mind. Even before learning to write or read, she composed her own music. Once she had her first guitar at the age of eight, she started to perform on radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. In high school she was able to establish herself within the community, but her goals were bigger. The singer moved to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated television show host at the time was searching for a girl to sing for his show. Parton was hired in 1966, was signed to RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974, when her solo songs such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton, after the split of their partnership with Wagoner she wrote the song I Will Always Love You and had it reach No. Its first appearance at the top spot was in 1974.
