Bonanza was among the first television westerns to be broadcast in colour. The film was based on the Cartwrights who were a fictional family of ranchers who lived near Virginia City Nevada a real mining town in the mid 1800s. In the episode Marie My Love, he played Cartwrights' youngest son. Their mother was of French Creole origin.
